Biscuits & Gravy Fundraiser Surplus; Additions to TLS Curriculum
We have a significant surplus from our hugely successful Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast back in September— remember, we brought in over $29,000 when all was said and done! After consultation with the faculty and the Board of Christian Day School, I’m excited to announce that these funds will go toward the purchase a brand new K-8 classical science curriculum from Elemental Science. We have purchased review copies of Elemental Science’s “Classic Science” imprint series which will be on display in the school hallway for you to peruse once they arrive.
Each book includes a kit for demonstrations and experiments. One of the chemistry kits will be on display as well…for viewing purposes only! You can find more information at elementalscience.com.
Also changing for next year is our writing curriculum. While we have been happy with Memoria Press’s Classical Composition series, next year we will be rolling out a new series called Classical Writing from a different classical curriculum publishing house. You will be able to peruse some review copies of these books as well. More information about the Classical Writing series can be found at classicalwriting.com.
Financial Update: Fundraising, Congregational Giving, & Tuition
Fundraising at TLS can be a lot of fun. We have some great events here— our annual gala & auction and the aforementioned Biscuits & Gravy breakfast come to mind— as well as lots of fun ongoing fundraisers like BoxTops, Amazon Smile, Scrip, and Chick-Fil-A Spirit Days. These events get everyone involved and pulling for a good cause. Everyone has a good time, and it really helps our school.
That said, every school year the lion’s share of financial support for our school comes silently— completely without fanfare— from the members of Trinity Lutheran Church. This school year, the charitable giving of Trinity’s members subsidized the cost of every student’s tuition at a rate of 33% or more. Put another way: before any regular tuition discounts— LCMS, military/law-enforcement, longevity, etc.— a 33% markdown has already been applied to every family’s tuition bill. Without this groundswell of financial support, tuition would be just too expensive for most families— we wouldn’t be able to have a school. Needless to say, we’re very grateful! Other than fundraiser proceeds and occasional non-member gifts, this is the only financial support that TLS receives.
The 2020-2021 Schedule of Tuition & Fees can be viewed here. Please note the following:
- All families are eligible to apply for need-based tuition assistance. There is no longer a deadline for need-based tuition assistance applications, but applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received. If you anticipate needing tuition assistance for the 2020-2021 school year, please turn in your application by July 30, 2020.
- We are adding a 5% Law-Enforcement Discount.
- The TLS Grant Fund has been expanded in its purpose to subsidize all non-Trinity member discounts (LCMS, longevity, and military/law-enforcement).
- The Trinity Lutheran Church (TLC) Scholarship Fund has been set up to defray the increase in tuition for members of Trinity Lutheran Church; thus the new Trinity Member Rate does not reflect any increase.
Re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is now open! Please go to trinitycheyenne.org/enroll or visit the link on the TLCS homepage. This year open enrollment is going on concurrently with re-enrollment; however, in the event of a waitlist, re-enrolling students are given priority. To help ensure the accuracy of our budget projections, please submit your re-enrollment by Friday, March 27. The enrollment deposit of $100 per child may be paid by check or by card here* (*a small processing fee applies). This deposit must be paid before a child has re-enrolled status.
Registration is on Thursday, August 6, and Thursday, August 13, 2020. If you know that you will be unable to attend, please contact the TLS Headmaster’s office to make alternate arrangements.
Your servant in Christ,
