(Revised 10/20/2016)
While the media which your child reads, watches, and listens to at home are not directly our concern, all media inevitably form the character of our hearts (cf. St. Luke 6:45), and out of this “abundance of the heart” we all think, speak, and act. Trinity Lutheran School would humbly ask that our school parents be mindful of this.
On the other hand, what is read at school is our direct concern, as we are responsible for promoting a godly and virtuous school culture. Objectively speaking, in addition to being of generally poor literary quality, much of what is published under the aegis of “teen fiction” caters to worldviews which are at odds with what we, as a classical Christian academy, are dedicated to promoting. For these reasons, all in-school independent reading books must be selected from this whitelist. “Independent reading books” refers to books that students read when they have done all of their assignments and/or have some free time at their disposal. You can find many of these titles at Amazon, AbeBooks, the public library, and the shelves of our library and classrooms. If you have any questions about this policy, or you would like to suggest the addition of titles to this list, please contact the headmaster or the academic dean.
